Personal 3D Printing: 2014 Status Report

Herewith, the MHVLUG – 3D Printing Status 2104 slides (remember slides?) I’ll be using for my talk this evening at the MHVLUG meeting; you don’t get the audio track in the PDF, but the pictures may be informative.

If you believe everything you read, you might think personal 3D printing will go like this:

3D Printing 2014 - What They Say

3D Printing 2014 – What They Say

But it requires entirely too much of this:

3D Printing 2014 - What They Dont Say

3D Printing 2014 – What They Dont Say

Personal 3D printing requires that you take full control:

3D Printing 2014 - Personal 3D Printing

3D Printing 2014 – Personal 3D Printing

Not knowing the answers, I’ll still make some guesses about what lies ahead:

3D Printing 2014 - The Future

3D Printing 2014 – The Future

And I found the best tchotchkes ever:

3D Printing 2014 - Tchotchkes

3D Printing 2014 – Tchotchkes

See you there…

(The PDF has clickable links for those images, plus the 60-some-odd other slides. The plan: talk like an auctioneer for an hour!)

Very well done slides – I wish I had time travel available and could have seen this a year ago. For the kinds of stuff I tend to do, I’m sticking with machining processes. The Makerbot Replicator 2 has been a full-time heartache – we’re giving it to the undergrads and letting them tear it up, maybe make something out of it.

Oh – could you post that last slide, the calibration target for getting people out of the last row? Undergrads, you know… :-) I’d love to use it.

You are, from what I read on the Google Group, not alone…

the calibration target for getting people out of the last row

Done! If the PPT file doesn’t work, let me know; WordPress still doesn’t support ODP files.

      Thanks for the good words…

PPT worked well enough in LibreOffice… fixed one detail and saved it as an ODG. Thanks!

Whew! I tried round-tripping the PPT before I uploaded it, but …
