After six years, the anodizing on the Anker LC40 flashlights I repurposed as daytime running lights shows some radiation damage:

The bottom side looks pristine:

It turns out they were clamped in slightly different positions on our two bikes:

The side view shows a gentle color transition:

Apparently I had swapped the caps from the two lights when I noticed the fading after only the first year.

I actually like it better than before!
In person, it’s a surprisingly warm gold that doesn’t look damaged. Maybe I should leave them out in the sun for a few months to get rid of those unsightly strap marks …
Is the underlying metal brass or aluminum? Cause that kind of looks like exposed brass?
It’s almost certainly aluminum, because the empty flashlight doesn’t weigh nearly enough for a brass cylinder.
All I know: you couldn’t make that color happen if you were trying!
