This failed pretty much the way I expected:

The “carbon fiber” part of PETG-CF consists of very very short fibers, unlike the longer fibers in real carbon fiber materials, so the strength is nowhere near what you might expect from the marketing. I knew this going in and the break wasn’t surprising.
Round cart coins continue to work exactly like US quarters.

“They’re the size of a US quarter, because that’s what unlocks shopping carts around here.”
Which supermarkets in DCNY use coin-capture shopping carts? Here in WCNC it is only ALDI.
If your store in the Town of Poughkeepsie has more than 20 shopping carts, they must have a “Locking Device” of some sort:

It’s not clear to me the result “maintain[s] the aesthetic standards of the community”, but whatevah.
There are still none in Klamath Falls, though the Fred Meyer (part of Kroger, a store like an upscaled WalMart) uses carts with locking wheels.
They use a buried wireline that triggers the lock, as well as something related at the exits. From what I’ve seen, it seems to trigger on exit if the cart hadn’t passed near enough to a cashier’s stand. It gets a lot of false positives, though. Apparently it happens for some people who use the self-checkout stands. (I’ve had problems with the self-checkout. Too many glitches in their “anti-theft” systems beyond the cart issue.)
The locks seem to work fairly well; the store is using an all-plastic molded cart, and I’ve only seen one or two beyond the pale in the several months they’ve been in use.
Coinlock systems haven’t made an appearance around here, though with many stolen carts in use by homeless people, that might change.
A few stores around here have wheel locks with a buried perimeter wire, but they’re few & far between. The coin locks definitely take a beating, and I wonder if wheel locks are more durable.
Hey Ed….
I wanted to ask about your 2n2907 hard to find part…
are you looking for these ????
I have both the 2n2222 and the 2n2907 in the metal case from maybe 40yrs back…… Yes I am sure…same as you…we have bin drawers full of these things…. even have some A/D gold pins etc…
Some years back, I bought an Amazon assortment box that’s sufficient for my simple needs these days. I’m only now getting around to spray painting the basement with outlets so I can set up the electronics bench again.
But gold is no match for the hellish mix in antistatic foam:
