Vacuum Tube Prices, Then and Now

Quite by coincidence, a Pile o’ Stuff disgorged a 1975 Radio Shack Catalog listing three dense pages of vacuum tubes, including a 21HB5A:

These days, you buy New Old Stock 21HB5A tubes from eBay for about the same in current dollars with shipping:

eBay - 21HB5A Tubes

eBay – 21HB5A Tubes

I should stock up and light up!

If you want to stock up on the cheap, search the bay for “steampunk tubes”.

Never thought of that keyword, but one hopes defunct tubes go there when they die. It still seems odd that the whole “computer” controlling the lights costs less than the tube above it.

I bought a quartet of 21HB5A tubes, because they look so nice, and, should I reach the bottom of the Hollow State Electronics box, I know what to do…

      Thanks for the tip!

I hope they like the real vacuum tubes better than that dead halogen bulb …
