The original owner of our house positioned two blue plastic barrels along the driveway, filled with salt for ice melting. We’ve neither used the salt (a snowblower suffices for most storms) nor removed the barrels; they’ve been in those spots for at least three decades.
Many critters pause in front of the barrels:

Those who fit often hop inside:

We’re pleased to provide public salt licks!

We put an insulated shelter under the back deck ostensibly for the local feral cats. I got curious and aimed a wildlife camera at it to see if we got any takers. The cats just poop near it, but there’s a possum that seems fond of it. Since possums help reduce the tick population, I’m happy to have it around.
Somebody runs a feral cat feeding station near the Love Rd (honest!) rail trail access point. The big ones watch me ride by: “Yeah, we could take that meals-on-wheels treat down if we had to, but we’re full right now…”
