Found this on the hand-cranked reel that deployed an outdoor table umbrella in DC…

I think you’re not supposed to:
- Stand under something held by this cable
- Use it for motive power (?)
- Hang from it
I think they’re violating the first warning, as the cable holds the umbrella open over your head. On the other paw, it’s not a monster dead weight, so maybe it’s OK.
The food was pretty good.

In India
1. You can’t carry things on your head which has an antenna. (Mobile station)
2. You can’t use a scooter or use a railwayline testing vehicle.
3. You can’t hang yourself in a toilet
[Edit: I fixed a typo Raj noted.]
That is perfect!
The icons lok like something straight from xkcd.
You were in DC? If I weren’t in Florida for the shuttle launch, I’d have offered to buy you dinner so we could hang out and talk shop!
For a week of slow-motion touristing: we devoted a full day to each museum, read all the labels, gawked at all the exhibits, and had a great time doing it. We slept like stones at night.
Many years ago I took the Smithsonian aircraft restoration class when they were giving it at the shops on Silver Hill. One afternoon they turned us loose in the warehouses and, after much wriggling around Kraut wonder weapons, I stood up inside a large empty green box which turned out to be the forward bomb bay of the Enola Gay. Talk about chills up your spine.
So I said hello to the old girl again, this time from a respectful distance, out at Dulles. She looks much better now, what with having wings and engines and paint and all.
Curiosity and a degree of procrastination led me to this: http://adinter.ro/download/Detalii%20tehnice%20vinciuri%20Goliath%20Engl.pdf
It would appear that –
1) For people to stand under the load
2) To lift loads with a cable line not perpendicular to the drum axel
3) To lift and transport people
That was a good use of 10 minutes, honest! Not to mention I’ve been reading your blog for the past year; thought it was about time I chimed in!
The stainless steel ones on Page 8 look about right: thanks for the research.
Welcome aboard!
