The knobs probably pull straight off, so I wouldn’t be clamping the whole radio in the drill press…

Next time Ed, try to sink a small drill bit by a mm on the top of the knob and fill that will something white like correction fluid. You get a neat white mark.

If we were using them as handheld radios, that'd be perfect. Alas, they're jammed into a bag behind the seat frame where they're barely visible. This picture shows the "user interface" from about a foot over the bag: I should put up a post showing the radios in place; pix on the bench really don't do justice to the hideous tangle of cables...

Could you fill in one of the vertical flutes instead? That might wear less.
